Austin pedestrian survives hit

For the second time in as many months, Austin Police are looking for motorists

For the second time in as many months, Austin Police are looking for motorists who plowed into people near the same spot.

An April hit-and-run left a 62-year-old bicyclist dead and a month later, a pickup truck critically injured a pedestrian.

In May's incident, a driver in a pickup truck, possibly dark in color, plowed into a pedestrian along the southbound Interstate 35 service road and police need help to find the motorist who fled. The hit and run happened just after midnight on May 15, along the 9000 block of N IH 35 SVRD SB.

The victim suffered serious injuries that required multiple surgeries and an extended stay in the Intensive Care Unit.

Police say the vehicle is possibly a dark-colored, Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra with front-end damage caused by the impact. The driver was heading south on the service road and never called 911.

On April 12, about 7 p.m., a black, four-door GMC Yukon SUV plowed into bicyclist Ramon Clemente Nolasco in the 9000 block of North IH 35 SVRD. Nolasco was peddling north on the sidewalk when the SUV pulled out of a driveway and slammed into Nolasco. The driver and his passenger, both clad in reflective construction vests, sped off. Medics transported Nolasco to the hospital, where he died.

Austin police say there have been at least 30th fatal crashes in 2023, resulting in 30 fatalities for the year.

Police say there is a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the cases. Tipsters can drop a lead anonymously via the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477.
